West Central Model Railroad Club
Providing the excitement, sense of accomplishment and camaraderie
of running a railroad for members and visitors…..…..and doing it in 1/87th
scale……..….it’s creating a world in miniature, then not just running trains, but
running a railroad……..…..
The West
Central Model Railroad Club is located at 805 Clifton St. in Sparta,
Wisconsin.
The
setting is an HO scale, permanent layout club located in the
club's own building, adjacent to the Canadian Pacific Railway
(formerly Soo Line, formerly Milwaukee Road) mainline between Chicago and St.
Paul.
The
club purchased the building in the fall of 1987 and started building the
layout in 1988.
The West
Central Model Railroaders' 1,500 square foot building has an extensive HO scale
model railroad in progress.
Approximately seven
scale miles (425 feet) of main line track has been constructed.
Crawford Yard and Woodman Yard are focal points on the layout. Several
sidings and spurs are strategically located along the entire route,
serving towns and industries. The
layout features a wide variety of scenery and has several tunnels and
several
hand-built trestles. The West Central operates with Digitrax DCC
operation. Regular
meetings are at the clubhouse every Monday and Thursday at about
7:30 pm. Members regularly conduct formal operating sessions the third Saturday
evening of the month and group running sessions occasionally. Members come
alone or with any number of other members to run trains 24/7/365. Visitors are
welcome anytime. The
club hosts its annual Summer Open House the first Saturday of June and
its annual Winter Open House the first Saturday of December.
Times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
